Customs and Festivals
It is worth visiting Corfu to attend traditional local festivals, music events and processions that are organized throughout the year on our beautiful island.

Carnival Period:

• Carnival parades on various days during Halloween with original costumes and Venetian characters, masks and make-up
  
• The custom of "Petegoletsa", where the Corfiots gossip about local events in the Corfiot dialect in areas of  the city of Corfu
  
• followed by chants and mandolins (Swan Thursday).
  
• Central carnival parade. The carnivalgoers accuse and judge the Carnival for all the bad things of the year and at the end of the parade they burn him and read his will. A party with dances and songs follows.
  
• The dance of the "priests", where the priest of the village and then the other men sing and dance in the square of Agios Vasilis in the village of Episkepsi.
  
• "The wedding of the Carnival", where in various villages on the last Sunday of the carnival men disguised as a groom and a bride, get married while an alleged satirist tries to prevent the celebration of the wedding.
  

Easter Season

• Palm Sunday, large procession of Agios Spyridon accompanied by philharmonic orchestras
  
• Holy Wednesday, concert of the municipal choir at the municipal theatre.
  
• Good Friday, procession of epitaphs all day, accompanied by the Philharmonic
  
• Holy Saturday,  a large procession of St. Spyridon accompanied by all the philharmonic orchestras, follows the custom of breaking the jugs, while in the evening the Resurrection service takes place in the square of Spianada and spectacular fireworks follow.
  

August 11
Litany of the Saint in the morning accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra, while at dusk follows the "Varkarola" which is a parade of boats and floating platforms with guitars, traditional songs, local dancers and performances by the sea on a long route along the coast.
First Sunday of November
Doxology of the Saint in memory of the salvation of the island from a cholera epidemic and a procession accompanied by philharmonic orchestra
Christmas season
Philharmonic orchestras and choirs at various musical events at the Municipal Theater of Corfu praise the Christmas Spirit.

Summer time

• Numerous local festivals in the villages associated with religious festivals.
